Observe the context of each, especially whether the meaning is to be choice or special or selected for something, and what that something is. Also note whether the verse supports individual or corporate election. The former is God chooses some people to go to heaven and others to go to hell. The latter that that God has chosen or determined that there be a group of people inheriting the land or ruling with the Messiah.
