2 Samuel Week in Review

If you missed Psalm 84 under yesterday's post (2 Samuel 15-17), go back and absorb it. It's absolutely essential for living happily ever after.
Other highlights of this week include the end of the rise and beginning of the fall of David. The Davidic Covenant capped his ascent to the kingship, with a permanent grant of a ruler in his lineage. See under 2 Samuel 7 Digging Deeper for various interpretations and implications. Psalm 89 gives more insight into David's understanding of the covenant.
David's sin with Bathsheba and the aftermath, show his descent into irresponsibility and resultant national chaos, after he lost the high moral ground of being faithful to God. You might want to spend some time in Psalm 51 in which he repents before God and then look again at the account in 2 Samuel 11-12. Note how God deals with His servants when they sin, as well as the extent and limits of pardon/forgiveness.
As usual, skim any posts you missed, build your own theology about God, man, and the relationship between the two; and encourage someone else to subscribe to (read, and apply) Daily Truthbase.
